Pediatric dentistry- The first meeting with the dentist serves to create a bond with the child
Pediatric care staff watch over the oral health of children of all ages. Our dentists have degrees in dental care, but have also studied childhood psychology. Because to achieve lasting and quality care, a benevolent and trusting relationship with children is essential. The child should feel listened to, safe and relaxed during treatment. The pediatric dentist therefore strives to establish effective and reassuring communication.
The dedicated team
The pediatric dentistry (or pediatric dentistry) service is
dedicated exclusively to children, from birth to adolescence (13 years old).
Our treatment room is equipped for children. It creates a
friendly, relaxed and fun atmosphere, to transform the visit of the little ones
into a happy experience.
The first date
The first meeting with the dentist serves to create a bond
with the child, but also with the parents. It is important to identify the
nature, character of your child: is he anxious, very energetic, shy or
outgoing? Each child being unique, we try to find the best way to communicate
with him to put him in confidence and build a caring relationship.
Then, we do a complete check-up of your child, which
includes examining the teeth, but also the growth, face and smile. An update on
brushing, oral hygiene and eating habits is provided. No invasive treatment is
performed the same day.
At the end of the appointment, together we put in place the
treatment plan and preventive measures to ensure a stable result over the long
term.
For this first visit, you must bring your
child's documents below:
• the health record
• current prescriptions
• dental x-rays (if you have any)
• the letter from your dentist or pediatrician directing
you to us
• the firm's medical questionnaire, duly completed
Pediatric care offer
Fluorine
At the end of each treatment session, a medicine containing
fluoride is applied to your child's teeth. It locally strengthens tooth enamel
and reduces the risk of cavities by approximately 35%. For two hours after the
treatment your child will not be able to eat or drink
Sealing furrows (sealant)
80% of caries are in the furrows of the molars. The seal
hermetically seals vulnerable areas to stop the penetration of bacteria and
prevent their growth.
The filling material used has the ability to continuously
release fluoride, which further reduces the risk of caries recurrence.
MEOPA
MEOPA (equimolar mixture of oxygen and nitrogen prototype)
is a gas used during surgical procedures in children to calm them and increase
their comfort. For more information, see the Innovative Technologies page.
Bioactive dentine substitute (Biosilicate)
When the decay is deep, it attacks the "nerve" of
the tooth. In this case, the practitioner injects medicine into the tooth to
keep it alive, if possible.
A mortified tooth is like a dead tree: it remains in the
ground, becomes dry and does not hold for very long. Biosilicate works in 90%
of cases. But in 1 in 10 cases, the tooth necroses. It will then be necessary
to do a root treatment or to extract it.
Space maintainer
When you have to extract a baby tooth prematurely, the
neighboring teeth will "bend" and close the space. The new permanent
tooth will therefore have no more room to come out properly and can thus get
stuck in the jaw. In order to allow the teeth to grow as "normal" as
possible, it is imperative to maintain this space as if the tooth were still
there. To do this, we use a custom-made medical device (DMSM).
Preformed pediatric cap (CPP)
In the event that the tooth is too damaged and can no
longer be "repaired", the practitioner uses a provisional crown for
children, either for a baby tooth since it is going to fall out, or for a
permanent tooth, while the tooth lasts. child grow up and make a real wreath.
This crown is made of metal because it is thus malleable:
after adaptation to the chair, it is "clipped" onto the tooth. There
is no impression to be made, so no prosthetist step, which reduces its cost
compared to an adult crown.
S.M.A.R.T. technique (Silver Modified
Atraumatic Restorative Treatment)
When the child's cooperation does not allow conventional
treatment of cavities (even with MEOPA), there is a set of techniques that make
it possible to be faster without anesthesia.
The success rate is less important than conventional
techniques, but this solution is of great service in many situations, because
the products used make it possible to stop the caries process. The use of these
products remains a very dark color on the surface of the treated tooth, which
is completely normal.
Individual prophylaxis session
It is essential that your child knows how to brush their
teeth properly. During an individual prophylaxis session, all oral hygiene
instructions will be given, in a fun way, with a plaque revealer, and with a
real electric toothbrush.
Prophylactic cleaning will be performed. It removes dental
plaque and surface roughness. Plaque forms more slowly on polished dental
surfaces.
So, do you feel better prepared to take care of children
and adolescents? we will be happy to share your experiences with us.
